Hugh Jackman Films ‘The Wolverine’ On The Streets of Parramatta

Australian actor Hugh Jackman is currently busy filming some scenes for his latest movie “The Wolverine” on the streets of Parramatta in Greater Western Sydney. Once more, Hugh Jackman reprises his role as Wolverine while a Japanese actress named Tao Okamoto portrays the character Mariko Yashida, the half-sister of the Silver Samurai. Onlookers has described that the scene Jackman and Okamoto were filming looked like a rescue scene of a damsel in distress.

According to News.com, the scene being filmed involves Hugh Jackman and Tao Okamoto chased by a gunman where Jackman has to carry the Japanese actress in his arms while running down the road. Okamoto was safely attached to a harness which made it easier for Jackman to carry the actress since numerous takes were required for that particular scene.

Buildings around the intersection of the streets George and Smith are currently giving out a Japanese vibe of bright colors and anime-styled pictures after being transformed into the city of Tokyo for the set of the upcoming film “The Wolverine.” Meanwhile, Lord Mayor John Chedid claimed that Parramatta is proud to be a part of a blockbuster film.

''I’m excited and proud Parramatta has been chosen as a stage for The Wolverine. It reflects the city’s quickly growing appeal as a leading filming destination, and having this high profile movie filmed here will only enhance this further,” Mayor Chedid said.

''Parramatta Council has been working to create a film-friendly environment in the city. We’ve already had some success with production companies choosing to make blockbusters like The Wolverine and TV shows including East West 101 and Crownies in Parramatta. As well as generating jobs and investment, productions like The Wolverine boost our tourism and visitor economy by raising the city’s profile around the world,” the Mayor further added.

Even though Parramatta state Liberal MP Geoff Lee was excited for the filming to start, he felt that it would also give inconvenience to the people in the area to which Lee apologized and asked for consideration. During filming of some scenes for “The Wolverine” movie, George St. will be temporarily closed between Horwood Place and Barrack Lane while Smith St. will also be temporarily closed between Phillip and Macquarie streets.

“The Wolverine” is scheduled to be released in 2013.
