A disappointing news for the
Australian fans of singer Madonna. The singer’s promoter Live Nation Australia has
confirmed that the Queen of Pop will not be heading Down Under. According to
reports, Madonna has canceled her performance plans in Australia as part of the
MDNA World Tour. There has been no further comment about the cancellation and
also no statement released from Madonna’s camp.
Earlier this year, the singer’s
manager Guy Oseary said that Madonna really needs to go to Australia. “We are
long overdue for a trip Down Under and apologise for that. It will happen,''
Oseary said. Madonna’s last performance in Australia was in 1993 with her “Girlie
Show.”
Meanwhile, Live Nation is ruling out
extra dates with Madonna’s MDNA World Tour. "Madonna's tour
will end in South America in December as planned. That's all we can say,"
a spokesperson said. Also, Madonna was due in confirming summer dates earlier
this month. However, the announcement was delayed until after the Olympics.
According to the Herald Sun, Madonna’s promoter already booked out stadiums in
Melbourne and Sydney for the upcoming shows next year even though exact dates
for an Australian tour had not been announced yet.
The 53-year old Madonna is
currently on her European tour and some of her shows did not fail to meet the
expectations of a controversy and criticism. It has been reported that she
famously flashed her nipple while performing in Istanbul with mostly Islamic audience
watching. In Paris, her display of the Nazi swastika also became controversial.
Critics has claimed that Madonna’s ticket prices are way too expensive despite
several of her concerts on her world tour of 87 dates is making a record for basically
selling out.
Madonna offered a word of advice to
those who were quibbling over her world tour’s ticket price. "People
spend $300 on crazy things all the time, things like handbags," she told Newsweek. "So work all year,
scrape the money together and come to my show. I'm worth it," Madonna
said. However, this statement no longer applies to her Australian fans. Is
Madonna snubbing her Australian fans by canceling her tour?
